Providing affordable delivery and ride share services to Berkshire residents!
Meet Ed and Nicole of Rose & Cole's Co-op Transport!
With many in Pittsfield struggling with transportation issues, Ed had found himself increasingly busy bringing friends back and forth to work these past few years. Before long word got around Ed was single-handedly running a mini ride-share service without realizing it. Their participation in the Working Cities Coalition coalesced, that indeed, Pittsfield is in need of transportation services. Nicole, a long time community organizer with Manos Unidas, had become impassioned with the idea of worker co-ops and their ability to empower and mobilize workers via democratic governance, shared capital, and the various other ways co-ops ensured economic member participation. Co-ops adherence to sustainability and their concern for community was also impactful. Having recently founded Roots & Dreams and Mustard Seeds Inc, a Berkshire co-op incubator, Nicole thought that a transportation start-up was a great project to instate. With the support of other staff members from Roots & Dreams, Ed and Nicole began readying themselves to become a full fledged cooperative, adding other worker owners to their team!
....AND as the story continues, fate brought the co-op Terry Moore, a multi talented individual who now serves as our Director of Operations who we met at Harvest of Hope's annual festival. Terry has brought blood, sweat, and tears to this co-op diligently working day in and day out, volunteering up to an additional 20 hours per week to make this co-op work. Transportation had a lot more overhead than we initially expected but thanks to Terry we've overcome many hurdles!
Thank you Terry!
We take this moment to thank the organizations and institutions who make our work possible: 18 Degrees, Jacob's Pillow, Williamstown Theater Festival, Flying Cloud Institute, City of Pittsfield Human Service Grant, United Way, Barrington Stage Co. and any others we may be forgetting!
We are now looking to expand. Spring brings us a lot more tourism and we will be in need of more airport/out of town drivers. Please let us know if you have available hours to drive with us! Out of town drivers earn $17/hr. Look foreword to
serving our community as we continue to learn the ropes of transportation!
We are looking for ways to ensure fees stay low since the people who need transportation the most struggle to pay current cab prices which are approximately $2.36/mile and do not include the initial pick up fee. Rose & Cole offers $1.70 per mile for EBT customers or a $2 discount for in town rides. You can help us continue this program!
Roots & Dreams and Mustard Seeds Inc. a not for profit Berkshire Co-op Incubator, can accept your tax deductible donations to support this important subsidy. Thanks for your support! Please leave a note with your donation to let us know where it should go!
Our mission is two fold:
ensure low-income riders have access to transportation services and to support meaningful employment for vulnerable residents by developing the program into a worker owned model.
We're excited to be at O.U.R.s (Our United Resources)146 First St. Pittsfield, MA
